Oh did the MC is an idiot and naive comments hurt your little feelings? I mean he himself calls his self an idiot multiple times in the novel so it kind of sticks. Aw, I’m sorry but it’s not going to get any better from this Walmart version of Overlord.
As much as there are similarities with Overlord there is one major difference. In Overlord, Ainz is the antagonist of the story, because we see it from his point of view we tend to forget it. If you get some distance and watch what he does, in any other story he would be the great evil invading the world, and his actions become worse and worse as time goes by.
As for the accusation of lack of thought/planning other than in some very specific occasions that is all Ainz does, most of his apparent “brilliance” comes about by complete accident and is not his intention at all.
Here the MC is most definitely the protagnist of the story and is effectively a ‘good’ guy/hero character, he also shows, at least so far, much more thought and planning in that the consequences of his actions are actually for the most part the ones he intended.
The MC here also seems to be acting within a fairly strict moral framework which limits his options. The only moral framework that Ainz works within is what is good for him/Nazarick and, since he his quite willing to go all the way to including effective genocide without blinking or second guessing, has way more options available to him.
So though the basic premise is similar these are 2 very different stories.

Just ignore the comments and the commentators.
Because as you probably know “if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail”.
Mountain
