I think there are many reaons why not having slavery would make the nation and the lives of it’s people better.
Seeing others as equals removes emotional barriers to the unity of the people and makes it easier to dispel the ilussion of the people of either being worthless or deserving privileges.
These ideals may not seem like much, but they inhabit the subconcious of the people and make their lives better, be it in a matter of perspectives or in the actual facts. These ideals that inhabit their mind make them better people from the inside.
Considering that people aren’t born equal and that some deserve to be above others while others deserve being bellow is a breeding ground for the darker places of the human psique.
These and other reason are why abolishing slavery is almost always a etter option.
